How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which stimulates your body’s collagen production. The improvement develops over time rather than appearing as an immediate change.
When will I see results?
Sculptra results appear gradually over the weeks and months after treatment. Your provider can explain the expected timeline for your recommended plan.
How many vials or sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. Your provider will consider your facial anatomy and cosmetic goals when recommending the number of vials and sessions. The plan will be discussed during your consultation.
Is Sculptra the same as dermal filler?
Sculptra is a collagen-stimulating injectable. It works gradually, while many traditional dermal fillers provide more immediate volume. Your provider can help determine which treatment, if any, is appropriate for your goals.
Will there be downtime?
You may have temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising after treatment. Reactions and recovery vary. If you have an important event coming up, discuss timing with your provider before booking.
What aftercare will I need to follow?
Your provider will give you instructions specific to your treatment. Follow the instructions provided by your doctor.
Do I need a consultation before Sculptra?
Yes. New and first-time patients must have a cosmetic consultation before receiving Sculptra. Treatment is generally done on a separate day, after the consultation and treatment plan have been completed.
Pre-Care Sculptra Instructions
Tell your provider about your medical history, allergies, previous cosmetic treatments, and all medications and supplements you take, including over-the-counter products. Don’t stop prescribed medication unless the clinician who prescribed it advises you to.
Let the clinic know if you have an active rash, skin irritation, or infection near the planned treatment area. Treatment should be postponed until the area has healed.
Come to your appointment with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area.
If you have an important event coming up, discuss timing with your provider. Temporary redness, swelling, or bruising can occur.
Post-Care Sculptra Instructions
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur. A cloth-wrapped cold pack can be applied for a few minutes at a time during the first 24 hours. Don’t apply ice directly to your skin.
Follow your injector’s massage instructions. If recommended for your treatment, massage the treated area in a circular motion for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.
Avoid direct sun, tanning beds, and extreme temperatures until any initial redness and swelling have settled. Follow your provider’s advice about sun protection.
Makeup may be applied a few hours after treatment if there are no complications, but check with your provider first.
Contact the clinic if symptoms worsen or last longer than expected, or if you notice lumps, skin-colour changes, or other concerns. Seek urgent medical care for vision changes, unusual severe pain, pale or white skin in the treated area, or stroke-like symptoms.
